Born in France and living in Geneva, Anouck Genthon is a violinist. Her musical achievements pay particular attention to sound and listening. She explores the potential of her instrument while developing a personal language enriched by improvisations and compositions. She collaborates in several duos with Lionel Marchetti, David Meier, Ed Williams and Antoine Läng, as well as with the trio tangent+mek, the LGBS Quartet, Le UN, Insub., and the Grand Chahut Collectif.
Her interest in sound is also expressed through devices that integrate walking in situ. Attuned to the environment, she develops her work based on the conditions of sound propagation and perception (Song walk with me w/Antoine Läng, Notice w/Mathias Forge, A l’affût w/Grand Chahut Collectif, Ring w/Jason Khan, Olga Kokcharova, Antoine Läng).
Trained as an ethnomusicologist, she retains in her musical performance the traces of the Tuareg musicians she encountered during her filed work in Niger. From this immersion, the projects aẓǝl in solo, tǝɣǝrit with Jacques Demierre, A Neuve with David Meier and the recent creation research Heterophonia with Ariane Cohen-Adad were born. The connections between traditional music and experimental music continually spark her curiosity.
Interested in electroacoustic and electronic music, she participates in various creation projects in the pieces Phasme and Suite blanche (forthcoming on June 2025) with Lionel Marchetti, Entre-temps by Patricia Bosshard (w/Olga Kokcharova, Luc Müller, LGBS Quartet), and Sur la crête with the LGBS Quartet and Rudy Decelière (premiere on November 2025).
The collective approach is very present in her work; she is involved in several large ensembles, including the Grand Chahut Collectif, Insub Meta Orchestra, Le UN, the Insub. collective, as well as being a member of the Geneva Federation of Creation Music.
Her concerts regularly take her across Europe, the United States, Canada, and Russia, and her work is published by Sbire records, Wide Ear Records, Newwaveofjazz, Another Timbre, Confront Recordings, Pan y rosas discos, UNRec, Insub. Records, Le petit label, Thödol, and Gamut Edition. She is the author of the book “Musique touarègue. Du symbolisme politique à une singularisation esthétique” (L’Harmattan, 2012), and co-author with Antoine Läng of the book “Fictation” (Gamut, 2020).
